Meet the Team at Tektum

Tektum Supplies Ltd may have been set up in early 2020, but our team is one of the most experienced in all of Scotland in the roofing and cladding industry. With more than 100 years of time served under our collective belts, here’s your guide to the Tektum team!

Who is on the team?

Managing Director Mike Saini and Technical Sales Executive Stewart Miller have worked alongside each other in the industry for almost 30 years and were joined in the early 2000s by Director Ross Mather. Around a decade later, Hugh ‘Shug’ Paterson joined the team, working his way up to the role of Warehouse Manager, with Andy McGhee joining as Warehouse Operative just last year.

These longstanding relationships are the key to Tektum’s growing success. Take it from Stewart: “It would be crazy to split up this ‘family!’”

So what’s a typical working day like for the team, and what are the highlights?

Mike: “Meeting customers and suppliers face to face. It might be old hat post-Covid, but I swear by it!”
Stewart: “I enjoy an early start and don’t mind a late finish, and I’m always happy when I can resolve a customer’s problem.”

Shug: “A typical day for me usually consists of taking in deliveries, making up orders to go out and dealing with customers on the phone and at the trade counter. For me, the best past is getting to interact with the customers and building relationships with them and with the team.”

Andy: “A typical day in work starts with coffee at 8am and starting on the day’s orders, as well as checking that deliveries we’ve sent out have made it to their destinations. What I like best is that warehousing is new to me, so every day I’m learning something new and always progressing.”

Ross: “I’m mainly office-based, so my typical working day involves pricing projects and overseeing the sales team. I enjoy the day to day camaraderie and seeing the team spirit in action!”

How do you think the rest of the team would describe you?

Mike: “I don’t think I want to know! Pretty level-headed, honest, hopeless with anything electrical or mechanical!”

Stewart: “Like an efficient, well-oiled machine… that’s starting to look a wee bit rusty round the edges.”

Shug: “If I was to choose one word, I would say loyal.”

Andy: “They would probably describe me as easy going and a good laugh”

Ross: “To my face? I would think reasonable, understanding, a joy to be around… behind my back? Miserable and a real moan!”

What’s life like outside of work?

Mike: “Busy! Usually a work dinner once a week, I have two undergraduate kids, who it seems like I get to see by appointment only, and having a partner who works in London means I’m always on the move! I’m also President of my local rugby club this year, and I want to play more golf and watch my football team at weekends, so life can be hectic, but I wouldn’t have it any other way!”

Stewart: “Bikes and cycling are my passion – I’m forever buying my ‘last’ bike frame. Collection currently stands at 41 complete bikes or frames, with a view to adding more!”

Shug: “I’m usually out socialising, whether that’s climbing Munros or tackling a Guinness.”

Andy: “Once I’ve caught up on my sleep, I’m usually with friends at the football or the pub.”

Ross: “Busy! I split my free time between my family and playing golf, and I’m currently trying to get my two girls involved in playing golf so that I can combine the two, in top of date nights with my wife when we can squeeze them in.”
